Charity Set Build Brings A Spaceship to the Valley Makerspace

Makerspace members saw a flurry of activity at the Valley Makerspace during most weekends throughout March and April. This was because the local Star Wars charity costuming clubs worked together to create a brand new set as the backdrop for the Make-A-Wish photobooth at the Calgary Expo.

Make-A-Wish Canada works with communities across the country to provide children with critical illnesses the opportunity to realize their most heartfelt wish. These wishes are more than just moments of happiness; they are crucial in improving medical outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for both the children and their families.

Members from the 501st Legion: Badlands Garrison, Rebel Legion: Outrider Base, The Dark Empire, Mando Mercs, and Badlands Droid Builders all worked together to create the interior of a space ship from a galaxy far, far away.

The new set was used at the Calgary Expo, an event that takes place in April, to help raise money for Make-A-Wish. Patrons donate to have their photo taken inside the set with a huge lineup of various characters from Star Wars.

Over the course of the event, they were able to raise $6000 for Make-A-Wish!

This is just one of the many ways our local makerspace helps contribute to our community in fun and unique ways!
